Deadly Snows

Dusky days,
Sudden gales,
Warning that the sun
Will soon be gone.
Ice already forming
Over the Arctic ocean,
To seal in the villages.

Cold blue waters
Reflecting towering peaks
Capped with glistening ice.
Sounds of howling
Huskies filling the air.
Umiaks, empty shells
Waiting for the whale

Thick flakes of snow
Soft as feathers
Barely touching,
Gently stroking
My face.
Deadly snows...

Eskimo, I am...
