A Letter to a Manly Man
by Kevin Limiti

Hey you,

Yeah you, with the shirt.

Get a life. Youíve earned it.

Join the army. Go to war. Kill somebody.

Be a man, you manly man.

Buy some enlargement pills.

Open doors with your dick.

Ladies first, gents.

Slave for hours at an office so you can beat the crap out of yourself when you get home.

Be a good Christian and go to church.

Meet a woman and decide to marry her.

Raise a family.

Then go backwards.

Repeat.

Thatís the life of a man.

Youíve earned it, Mr. Manly Man.

Yes it is, FinnMacCool!
Personally, I'm all for sarcasm in poetry, and I love this. I particularly liked the opening doors line.

sure is
for a direct and declarative sort...

would be great to hear this read out loud. "Open doors with your dick." made me howl... it kind of has a Chuck Palahniuk feel to it... which is definitely- in my opinion at least- a good thing.

what is poetry
everything is poetry.
this is poetry! anything
you feel passionately,
like disgust at the way
other people live, is poetry.
any intolerant comment
is poetry, if it's felt strongly
enough. write on, directly,
strongly. Amusingly.
can you feel the poetry here?

Self-Defined
To me, the greatest aspect of poetry is that each individual poet sets the rules-if any at all. Define poetry as you choose, and don't let anyone-not even another poet-tell you that your poetry isn't truly poetry.
