Greetings, my name is depression
You may have heard of me
Or maybe even met me before
If not, lets get acquainted
So when I meet you again
We can quickly commence with a relationship
You will never forget

I will be your best friend
I will love you to death
When you stir from your nightmares
I will greet you
And swallow the birdsongs
When you crawl from your cocoon of sleep
I will wrap you in my
Impenetrable shell
Cover me in clothes
Make my red rimmed, black-bagged eyes
Tolerable with a mask
And lets get on with our day

Did I mention I have your life all under control
I’ve arranged it
So we can spend as much time as possible together
You can’t be happy without me
We will cry together
You will never be alone
I will be with you until death does us part
Soon…er or later…

Oh yeah
I don’t mind if you have other relationships
In fact, I will introduce you to my friends
Addiction and obsession
Fatigue and boredom
Pain and misery
Among others
But they wont separate us, I promise

But anyway
It was nice to have met you
I’ll see you again sometime
And we’ll take things from there.

I Live For The Pain

I loved the sarcasm and analogies here! I must admit that I'd never thought of depression as a friend, but the analogy holds well. Very well. You have found a very effective use for freeverse poetry; this isn't just random babbling broken into short lines like some. Great work, 9 of 10.

Interesting indeed! Very good poem...can't think of anything else to say...just letting you know I like it.
