He saw her at the bottom of the stairs before she saw him. His heard began to pound heavily. Why? His mind rushed to find an answer. Why was she there? He turned quickly and started walking back to his apartment praying that she would not see him. A feminine voice came from behind him making the hair on his neck stand. He let out a heavy sigh.

"Adrian, wait." Nearly tripping on her pants, the young woman raced up the stairs. "I need to talk to you." She grabbed Adrian's arm.

Glaring at the woman, Adrian tried to pull away from her. "Do you honestly think I want to hear what you have to say, Rosie. After what you didů" He quickly turned and walked to the door.

"Adrian, I'm sorry." Rosie ran after Adrian as he opened the door to his apartment. She cried, "This is really important." Tears ran down her face. She forcefully pushed her way through the door and past Adrian.

"What are you doing? Get the hell out of here." Adrian glared at Rosie angrily.

"Just let me talk. Just give me five minutes. This is really important, Adrian." Rosie pushed tears off her cheeks as she spoke.

"What? What the hell is so important?" Adrian's tone was unusually harsh.

"Sit down." Rosie walked to the familiar sofa and sat. Adrian nervously took a seat next to her. Taking an apprehensive breath, she quietly whispered, "I'm pregnant."

A look of shock overthrew the anger that had once shown on Adrian's face. "How do you know it's mine?" Adrian's gorgeous visage was masked with disbelief. "It's probably that other guy's."

"I didn't sleep with him. I told you that, Adrian. It was only a kiss. This baby is yours." Rosie's face was stained with black mascara.

Adrian placed his head in his hands. Rosie, his girlfriend of four years, cheated on him only one week ago. He believed what she said, but it still broke his heart. Adrian had no idea how to respond.

"Adrian," Rosie gently placed her hand on his back. Adrian still did not look up. "I'm so sorry. I don't know what else to say." Slowly standing up, Rosie said softly, "You know how much I love you. I never meant to hurt you like I did." She turned and headed towards the door. As she put her hand on the doorknob, she looked back at Adrian. He was crying.

Rosie let go of the doorknob, walked back to the sofa, and sat down next Adrian again. Wrapping her arms around him, she whispered, "Take me back."

Adrian raised his head and gazed at Rosie. His body shook as he pushed the tears from his face with the back of his hand. "You swear you just kissed him." His voice trembled as he muttered his words.

Rosie nodded. "I swear." She let out a soft sigh of relief pass by her lips when Adrian took her hand in his.
