i'm sorry but your words are not enough
for me to blindly allocate my trust
i would be the first to vouch for you in any other case
but promises weren't made in such a way to hold much weight

when you lean on them they stay
when you fall on them they break

i wish i could believe you
as fantastic as it all may sound
but with every leap of faith i take
i end up falling down

i've heard plenty of your scheming
and have bought into it before
but once you're cashed, risk-free investments
are all you will afford

science provides the safety
that belief aims to ignore
you can either have the certainty
or you can have the warmth

but if you alert me when you find
something more than mere conjecture
i'll quickly take your view on life
renouncing common sense forever

(did you expect i could believe you now
when all you've done is let me down)

------
of all misfortune, the worst kind of fate is to have been happy.

"renouncing common sense forever"
in favour of unconventional wisdom...? as all real wisdom surely must be...

often wondered if there's such a thing as "uncommon sense" and how that relates to those leaps of blind faith detailed here...

often sources are not variable. we seek islands of enlightenment in oceans of incredulity...

apologies, I've gone a little odd. provocative poem this, got the gears going. thank you.

if logic were a religion, i could actually go to church
yea, perhaps i should have spent more time one this one. at points it's vague to a fault. maybe i'll work on it some more. but to answer your questions, you can really just think of it as a character's response to his would-be evangelist.

fuzzy logic
logic demands no churches, I guess that's what’s be so appealing about it... I did think this might have been a response to the unreasoningly religious, whose critical faculties had been numbed by years of blind obedience... it just sparked off strange thoughts in my addled head...

and I meant to say "verifiable" not variable... I'm clearly losing the plot ;)
