Brussels, Belgium, 18 December, 2006: New Worlds Project, a creative writing community numbering over a hundred registered users, announced today the creation of New Worlds Project: Target Locked, and New Worlds Project: Weapons Free. The two titles will become integrated components of the New Worlds Project Play-by-Post Role-Playing Game and will be implemented during New Worlds RPG’s 4th Season. The Play-by-Post Role-Playing Game, found at http://rpg.nwproject.org, celebrated its 3rd year of public existence last summer, when on the 7th August 2006, New Worlds Project’s 3rd season came to an end. With Weapons Free, and Target Locked, New Worlds Project will become better equipped to meet the needs of both writers and role-players looking for an original science-fiction setting to stretch their imaginations with.

The creation of Target Locked and Weapons Free follows intensive consultation with current members, website visitors, and experts in the play-by-post gaming environment. New Worlds Project once featured a massive setting which could be explored as the writers desired. However, the massive setting features well over 500 pages of making it a notoriously difficult game to learn. “Since New Worlds Project was launched, we’ve been constantly searching for new ways to introduce the massive setting without overwhelming the newcomer,” Dean of Personnel and New Worlds Project Co-Chair of the Board of Directors Glenn Gregory commented, “We think that with Target Locked and Weapons Free, we’ve found the solution.”
The role-playing game as it existed will now be offered as New Worlds: Weapons Free. New members will be required to spend some time learning the game (and in particular learning the setting) through the use of New Worlds: Target Locked. Target Locked will differ from the existing role-playing game because new members will be assigned a writing group for which they will be expected to write. The smaller environment will allow for more focused role-playing and writing and will allow the player to progressively learn the setting. “Star Trek role-players in particular will find this to their liking, the different members of the writing group will take on different roles aboard the bridge of a starship, and will have to solve missions that will last no more than a few months,” Co-Founder and Director responsible for Continuity Alex Perry explained, “But writers can also enjoy this as well, because it gives the necessary opportunities to create well-rounded characters with more history than what we’ve seen in what will become Weapons Free.” Once a participant receives the honorific rank of Lt. Cmdr., the player in question will receive access to New Worlds: Weapons Free.
By creating this bi-level game-play, New Worlds Project offers the best of both worlds. Role-players will find that Target Locked gives them the full opportunity to actually role-play, whilst writers will find that Target Locked and Weapons Free combined offer a real complete writing environment that will grow with them as they become more settled in the New Worlds setting.
New Worlds Project: Target Locked and New Worlds Project: Weapons Free will both become available to New Worlds RPG members before 2007. “We expect to have everything up and running by January 2007,” New Worlds Project RPG Co-Founder and Director of External Relations Kim Leonard Smouter confirmed.
