I court memory
because itís ink is dark
red or black. Even green.

The now of things is
pink. Baby blue.
Butter yellow.
Lovely colours, but
the page eats them,
chews them up
and all pages look the same
having been inked with them.

This is the opposite of
exorcism. I donít chase
the demons out but
bid them rise
like smoke, rising up
out of this cave of bone.

Caught, I grind it down,
spit into the bloody mess of it,
dip pen and carve grooves
of memory onto white.
