Out of the still, dark night came a distant wail: "I NEED some!"

Silence. Closer: "Gotta GET some!"

More silence. Even closer: "Gotta have some NOW!"

My wife sat up in bed beside me. "You've been awake?"

"I just thought I was hearing something."

"I love your cool," she said, "but we've got to get out of here."

"Well, I'm curious about what it wants, I'm - "

"We have no time for that. You HEARD it. That's enough. You get us OUT of here."

"OK, now I see it," I said, "up this way - "

From the cliff's edge, we heard the wailing, wanting, gliding by far below us.

"Yeah, who gives a damn what it wants," I said.

nope
as it says,

we heard the wailing, wanting, gliding by far below

so it went by them and [i]far below[/i them, and never climbed the cliff at all.

My wife doesn't believe in wasting her time with these things.
