Act One: WOMAN.

He sweeps me off my feet
It's his masculinity
The way he feels between my legs
Soon the happiness ends
The beatings begin
He is stronger than me
I am so weak
A black eye here
A fat lip there
Bruises all down my body
All the things I don't want my son to see
The yelling starts
Then I am on the ground
Trying to protect myself
While he kicks me over and over
The pain and the hurt my punishment
For being a woman

Act Two: MAN.

I sweep her off her feet
It's my masculinity
The way I feel between her legs
Soon the happiness ends
The beatings begin
I am stronger than her
She is so weak
A black eye here
A fat lip there
Bruises all down her body
All the things I don't want my son to see
The yelling starts
Then she is on the ground
Trying to protect herself
While I kick her over and over
The pain and the hurt her punishment
For being a woman

Thanks for brightening our day, man. Yikes. Well done, though. I like the matter-of-fact callousness on both sides. Keeps the poem grounded and allows the reader to respond as s/he will.

Two Act Play.
Can't say I liked it or I'm happy I read it. But it's writen well, and I'm glad you wrote it. If that makes sense?

Two Act Play--JohnJohnDoe
Some realities are a hard pill to swallow and harsh on the eyes, in a world that many would rather view most things through their rose colored lenses and can only handle their medicines in sugar coated syrups.

Two Act Play
It is well written but it turns my stomach
no one has the right to beat on another. If a child sees how do we expect our children
to know it is not right,

Concept
John,

I keep coming back to this poem. I've read it a few times now. I didn't know what the appeal was for me until now -- it is the concept you have developed here. A two act play, each act from the opposite perspective, although the gut level fact remains the same from either perspective.

This is really a smart, intelligent, insightful "concept" poem, kind of like some actors are "method" actors.

I think you could, from time to time, continue this concept using other daily events we see, read, and know about.

jjd two act play & bwoz
cool. I think that BWOz pretty much summed what I would say about this work. Inventive concept.
