The Cross gleams-
The Chalice glitters-
The Eucharist glows…

Yet the Prince communes
with the Dark.
Frigid frosts
steal over his heart-
quickening his spirit.
Spectres long dead
swirl into that all-seeing Eye.

.….Through ruined arches
of his tumble- down keep-
the once and future king,
as the vile Plague sweeps
off the armada,
riding at anchor on storm tossed billows.
Mute...stricken …. numbed with horror -
he watches it
savage his once- fair realm.

Thick streams, of grisly grey ,
swarm over unsullied greensward
gouging out .. .. burrowing deep.

The lightning flash -
and the Wizard bows low before him.
Stars glint from flowing sleeves
as warlock hands sweep
onto far , distant horizons.
The thunderclap booms-
and the arrow darts ,
from trusty longbow ,
winging its way ,swift and true ,
to the ends of the earth.

Far skies darken .
Spouts , giant and black,
surge high into heavens.

In that instant -
shrill screams
rip serene calm to shreds .
freezes to ice in veins -
as the Plague lets slip
its dire reign of terror-
ravaging the sceptered isle .
Maddened …crazed …
driven to the very end of their tether,
the white knights of the realm
charge over the drawbridge,
death’s head standards piercing skies.
Thundering at full tilt,
their host falls upon the hordes -
putting the Plague
to fire and sword.

Gripped by demons ,
in dervish frenzy,
vast rivers of grisly grey
stream back -
gushing over towering cliffs-
down into their utter extinction.

…..A sardonic smile curling his lip,
perfectly poised … rock –steady,
the Prince aims -
then takes the long shot….

The Bell tolls,
the Book clangs shut,
the Candle snuffs out .

And the Prince slinks back –
to his dark ,sinister Fold.

RJKT long shot
So creepy good. I like its Gothic character images and the novel size ride into another realm.
