Walking through the tall, carved doors,
a sweet sound stung his ears,
a heavenly choir of angels singing
is the first sound that he hears.

Hand carved maple benches
in perfectly straight rows,
and lovely stained glass windows
Everywhere he goes.

He walks up to the giant cross
and gets down on his knees,
folding hands and thanking God
for everything he sees.

“While I’m here, dear Lord,
if you have the time today,
there are several other things
for which I’d like to pray.”

“Please, Lord, heal my daughter,
who’s so sick she can’t walk,
in fact, she has to whisper,
‘cause she can’t even talk.”

“Please put a stop to war,
and those who steal and lie,
and any who harm others,
even if they have to die.”

He finished up by asking
for forgiveness for his sins,
he walked outside and saw
his daughter walking up to him.

He was so thrilled he hugged her,
while kneeling on the ground,
but, suddenly he noticed they
were the only two around.

Very good!
Damn good. I was expecting a very nice ending but then the last line changed everything. This is a great poem, even the title is perfect.
Damn good read, and I am the first who gets to comment! Yippie

Sad News
That's really too bad. He was a cool guy (judging from his poems, anyway). Good poet, level-headed, reliable commenter. I didn't even know he was sick.

Oh, such sad news,
I haven't been around much. It is with sadness that I came back "home" tonight to Lit.org and with sadness that I sit here for a few moments, and sadness that I once again leave here.

It surely is a profound sadness that we have lost yet another one of our writers, with a more final good bye.

I got to know Wayne, respect him for his versatil ways, his gentle mannerisms in what I had read of his posts and comments. He was an inspirational writer, another one that kept me coming back to Lit.

Thank you for letting us know this sad news. I hope his work will stay with us for a long time that we will have the ability to come back and read and learn from Wayne.

Passing through
Sad to hear this news. There have been a few deaths of Lit.Org members. This site is big, but it's not that big when it comes to people that post and comment fairly regularly.

I'm very saddened.

I guess it's another reminder. If there's something you want to say through writing, write your heart out, before it stops beating.

Thanks, Wayne, for putting your "shit" out on the street. (I mean that as a compliment.)

Random Reader - Pshyco6058
Just about to comment on this while reading on random reader. Not been on lit for a while and was was surprised to see Wayne HD passed in 2006 within a month of posting this excellent and somewhat prophetic poem. Wayne was one of the writers whose frequent posts made lit inrteresting and I am sure even at this late stage all of the long time members of lit will wish him well on his new journey.
