Did you walk today
With the sand in your toes
And stoop to pick up a shell?

Did you discover new beauty
And feel overwhelmed
By a joy you could not quell?

Did you stand on the shore
Looking into the mist
And suddenly feel very small?

“Till filled with a vigor
You couldn’t define:
“I can do anything, at all!”

Beautiful words on an ugly day.
This was a really beautiful read Lady M. It manages to be gentle and tender but still powerful. I read it and was touched, and just for a few minutes transported out this grotty, sticky inner-city flat, so thank you very much for that.

Shannon.

Beautiful words
The poem is nice, very tight and quaint. I liek the rhythm and the setting is also great. Except for the last line (which I would have said, "I can do anything, anything at all") there seems no editing needed.

auldmisery - Did you?
What a wonderful comment to post on my piece. I especially like it when I can transport someone to a better place - even for a moment.

The day that I wrote this, I was in a 200+ year old unheated library, on a very damp, cold day, listening to presenters as the torrential rain pummelled the slate roof.

All the while, I kept escaping to the shore, where I knew a friend was enjoying the sunshine, halfway across the country.

Thanks again for commenting.

Regards,
Lady M

Siah - Did you?
Thanks for the good comments. I do need to work on the last line. I was having a hard time trying to express that feeling you get when you've been refreshed by a visit to the shore - the feeling that you are ready to take on the world, because you are feeling rejouvinated.

I'll get back to it and see what I can come up with.

Thanks again!
Lady M

Lady M
I like your poems, of course I will feel inclined to write a comment here and there. Keep the writing
