I know that from the time we're born,
our destiny is death,
and I accept this fact of life
and trust that God knows best.

I know that God has for me,
better things above,
and that eternal life I'll have
surrounded by His love.

Yet through my life
each day I'd pray,
Dear Lord on earth please let me stay,
until my children are all grown,
and each have families of their own.

Now all are grown and each one has
more children I adore,
and now I want to watch my grandchildren
grow up even more.

I just hope when my time comes
God will make a way,
and through the years I can be close,
to watch over them every day.

Just heavenly (mind the pun)

Very good poem, very good. Gave me a feeling of understanding that I can't quite understand all the way to the core, but never mind. I just have one question: do you really believe our destiny is really death from the beginning? Because I think that there is more out there than just death, like life and the Ocean and insanity

Thank you
I wrote this after finding a few lines I had jotted down years ago, when I was pretty sick and death lay on my mind quite often. I was never afraid of dying, only sad at the thought of not being there for my family. At the time I only had 2 grandchildren. Now at 56 I'm in better health than I have ever been and in the past 9 years I've been blessed with 5 more grandchildren. Maybe they don't need me as much as I think they do, but I'm the one who needs them. This has given me some room for thought.Well however, I know I love being here for them, and I just don't think I'll ever be really ready to leave them.
