I do have good news, an acceptance, to share with you; but the story will not appear until June 15 and I'll wait until then. Recently I did get a rejection notice. Rejection is part of being a writer. A lot of rejection. Get use to it. Here is the rejection a got by email a couple of days ago.

I held onto "Compressionism: Denial" for a long while because I really liked it and wanted to include it in the issue of _________ I am putting together. Unfortunately, I don't think it is an exact fit. It seemed to me that the story's main conflict was too soft for such a hard, difficult subject matter. I think you missed an opportunity, I feel, at the end. I didn't feel like there was much of a resolution. I don't know; maybe I was looking for something a little unexpected--the narrator understanding his own problem in a clearer way; or maybe the narrator needs to confront his brother somehow--not an intervention or anything, but some kind of violent, or unexpected confrontation that would contrast with the story. Maybe I am full of it. Anyway, I loved the story. The writing was top-notch and I am sorry to not be able to use it. Please send more stuff as you've got it.

All my best

Rejection
Hey, as rejections go, that one's super-nice!

re: rejection letter
yeah,

as rejection letters go, this one WAS pretty nice. It looks like the editor actually took the time to read, and really critque your writing. That's good. In fact, if it's not too much to ask, I'd like to know the name of the publication. I don't really write stories myself, so I've got no interest in submitting anything - but if the editors put that much effort into considering submissions, they quality of writing is probably pretty good. It sounds like a publication I might enjoy reading (assuming that it's not something I read already).

I've written quite a few poems and some essays too - but I've only submitted for publication once or twice. Too scared I suppose. It's all I can do, to submit my stuff to lit.org...

Congratulations on your acceptance, and your thoughtful rejection letter too... :-)
