What is the gift of discernment?

Literal meaning:
To separate; to differentiate; to make a distinction.

Description:
The gift of discernment is the special ability that God gives to certain members of the body of Christ to distinguish between truth and error, and to know with assurance whether certain behavior purported to be of God is in reality divine, human, or satanic.

People with this gift can:
1) distinguish truth from error, right from wrong, pure motives from impure;
2) identify deception in others with accuracy and appropriateness;
3) determine whether a testimony attributed to God is authentic;
4) recognize inconsistencies in a teaching, prophetic message or interpretation;
5) are able to sense the presence of evil.

A person with this gift is usually:
1) Perceptive 2) insightful 3) sensitive 3) challenging 4) decisive 5) intuitive 6) truthful 7) discriminating.

People with this gift:
May struggle with how to express their perceptions, feelings or insights;
Could be harsh when confronting others, instead of speaking the truth in love;
Need to confirm their perceptions before speaking.

Bible references:
Romans 12:2, 1Corinthians 12:10, 1John 4:1,6,
Matthew 16:21-23, Acts 5:1-4, 1Corinthians 2:12-16

At bio, you give reason for joining Lit as, 'to improve your writing,' if recall reading correctly..

This piece appears a bit technical... unoriginal...lacking unique perspective or creativity...But, at same time, represented fine, as referenced article of opinion.

Do you pen poetry, stories, lyrics..? Anything of nondogmatic nature?

Ciao,

Disconcertment

If only God had disrtributed the gift of discernment as widely as the gift of life, or at least as widely as the gift of self-awareness.

This is well-stated as far as it goes, but how does one discern that one posesses such a gift?

It would save me a lot of thnking to be so gifted.

I would no longer need consider the certainty of the information in question. I would no longer need to examine the logic of an argument, or the reliability of a source.

But God gave me this urge to inquire, question, and disagree.

Perhaps this is my gift of discernment.

Gifts from God
Honey you did just fine. You write whatever you want to write about. Honestly I just don't understand why some people want to keep you from writing about what you like. I've never been a big fan of religion but I think prayer and a little faith can't hurt, with the exception of those religious fanatics that strap bombs to themselves in the name of God. I know you don't do that. Christians don't do that. I respect that. I respect any religion that doesn't do that. I respect your intensity and perseverance. I respect you for not being a coward like some. You stick to your convictions making no excuses or backing away from your faith in order to please a mocking majority. I believe you are gifted. I know there are lots of things that cannot be explained by anything other than a supernatural cause. Good for you girlfriend!

Onward Christian soldier! Good work. Keep it in Jesus' love and you will never fail. Trust the gift of the Spirit that our Lord has blessed you with. Your writing is improving.

enemy within
Thanks for leaving me messages. I like these comments I got this time and the different thoughts by people.
I'm happy a few people thought my writing is getting better that makes me feel great.

I do have the gift of discernment and because of it there are alot of fake Christians who avoid me. They know I can see right through them. They talk and talk all about Jesus and faith and stuff but they are filled with nothing but evil. I try to follow advice of speaking in love only. I am not very good at it yet. Jesus sometimes he got mad at the hypocrites and I get mad too.

Evil destroys its own house.

Opinion? Not.
bobby 7l,
you said this was my opinion? No not so. Unless you want to say that Christianity and God is all opinion. Either you believe it or you don't. It's not opinion. This is what theologians who study the New Testament Bible all say about the gift of discernment. Do I write about other things? I do when I feel like it but usually just when I have to like for a class assignment or something.
I read some of your poems and none of them made any sense to me and I couldn't figure out what you were talking about in none of them at all. I didn't say nothing so I wouldn't insult you or look stupid. Lots of people like your poems so they must me smarter than me to figure them out.

castandalupe,
thanks for encouragement.

windchime,
thanks for encouragement.

drsoos,
God wants you to use your smart mind and good heart to find the truth. You can disagree with me I'm nobody. It's God's truth that touches your heart when you are ready to receive it.

falkner, I need to pray more on that and trust the Spirit to speak through me.

Love,
Nebraska

Very Wise
Nebraska;
You have a Revelation Gift:

While you are decreasing, Jesus is increasing, and You recognize what is of GOD verses the world, the flesh, and evil forces...

It is given by the Holy Spirit (Discerning of Spirits) which bears witness with your spirit when something is or is not of GOD...

False prophets, teachers, christians are known by their fruit..people words do not line up with the Word of GOD... We walk by faith and not by sight! Forever, His word is settled in Heaven.

Give not that which is Holy unto the dogs. I did not say that, JESUS DID.
Neither cast your pearls before swine....

Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.

An execellent Aritcle written here...

Blessings,

Intuitive Powers That Be
Nebraska,
I believe in this gift, but I do not necessarily believe that it is given only to Christians and that it only relates to New Testament teachings. I think it goes a bit further than that and predates Christianity. Nice job of writing.

Happy Easter Vacation
I'm so happy you liked it Jeannie45! I know you are a true woman of God. You always place Jesus first above your ego, unlike some others around here who are more interested in being right all the time and sounding all smart instead of being interested in spreading the good news of Jesus first.
Legs I don't think you are talking about the same thing as I am. Psychicness is not the same as the gift of discernment of Spirits. My gift comes from God. Psychicness usually comes from evil and is used by Satan to manipulate souls into believing wrong things.

Finally vacation is here. No more school full days or half days! A full week of all day vacation! Happy Easter to all! It is a wonderful holiday that celebrates the resurrection of our Lord! I choose to look at the happiness of what Easter means.

Love,
Nebraska
