Ports and Portals of Import
1 of 4- Sans slot for satirical/political inflected poetry, decided to submit at 'poetry.'...'Humor' wasn't/isn't ticket..

This is of imagination. Of course, when penned "Peace Shoppers," that was as well.

Much thanks,

Holiday in Dubai (2007)
Fine poem, succinct and effective.

chap1/eliot/ Fly Dubai
chap1- Thank you for reading this little tale of situational ethics/perceptions, regarding which fascist regimes to take out and with which to share bed.

eliot- Can be called many things, but 'wordy' not one.

Much thanks.

windchime/ Despot Depot
Back to roots here. My first published poems were in school newspaper in 1968, when 15. "mine's off broadway" was an anti-war poem. "1968" was penned leading up to that years presidential election, imagining implications of a 3rd party victory by icon of segregation, George C. Wallace. Guess I had nerdicosis ...

Glad you liked final line.

There are several levels to this piece. As for targeted destinations during 'detour,'...Stay tuned.

On point,

JEANNIE45/ Lucie -of Dog Dreams
Jeannie- For leaving clue of visit, much thanks..Extravagant # noted.

Lucie- "flair for surreal cynicism"...Remain smiling over that one...Being known, at times, to resemble that remark.

Of Ports and Precognition
MB- It matters not that U.A.E. voted against U.S. 78% of time last full year of record at U.N. (62 times against us, 5 for, 10 times abstained and 2 times didn't show)..

Try to forget we were forced to close our embassy in Dubai (2004), recalling personel due to threats by locals.

It was so long ago that their banks were used to fund attackers, leading up to 911. Two of them were even from U.A.E.

Care not there is no vote. No civil liberties..That it's a breeding ground for terrorists...Has sold arms to them...

Oh, yeah, then there's that small matter of U.A.E. not recognizing Israel. Forget about it.

What's important to remember is we built a huge air base there to help with our war in Irag. A big-bomber-friendly one. We made a deal to use it for 10 more years. Am pretty sure we will.

Reporter at large,

Demeter/ Blame it on Brits
Lilia- Extravagant # noted.

Since penning this, U.A.E. has made deal to take over military contracted plants in Conn. and GA. These plants make parts for our military aircraft.

Dubai has spaceflight aspirations.

Oh, yeah, these plants are British run, as are ports in news.

Much thanks for time taken here.

I'm not liberal, but...

Globalization is all it is. America has been sold in pieces here and there and everywhere for years now. Didn't I hear someone say recently that the Saudis own something like 30+ percent of America? Some of our major utility companies in America our owned by the British. Some of our highway toll booths are owned by some other country somewhere. Its crazy. I'm not a liberal but I disagree with President Bush when he says that "outsourcing is a good thing". No it isn't. I hate getting into politics and debates. I get so angry and it's not worth it. I'll leave all that to writers who can dish it out in clever ways as you have done here.

Surreal cynicism is a good way to put it. I like this poem as thought provoking reading.

Legs/ Provoking Portals
Wendy- Your reading and letting me know is much appreciated.

It was indeed my intention to provoke thought.

Tinalouise/ Abu Dhabi Lobby
Tina- Heard U. S. General on radio today, answering questions regarding current heavy fighting across several regions of Iraq.

He described as being, "intense sectarian violence."..

Is that politically correct and/or government-speak for civil war?

Got to run..They're announcing final call for boarding...

Peaceful dreams,
