There once was a man who had a great treasure
It was all he spoke of; it was his great pleasure
It was kept in a shell untill the time came
When the treasure was ready and could not be contained
The man wanted people to know what was inside
He wanted them to know his joy and his pride
The people became curious wanting to see
This beautiful treasure - what could it be?
He tried to describe it, but to his dismay
There was not one adaquite word he could say
The people could not understand words he did use
They proved not to help but only confuse
Seeing that words only got in the way
He painted pictures of what he was trying to say
It turned out the man could draw very well
And beautiful pictures now covered the shell
The people's curiousity soon turned to awe
They honored the shell and the pictures they saw
They had no idea of what the pictures meant
But they made sure the shell was safe; not a scratch or a dent
As time passed by the people forgot
The pictures were pictures - reality they were not
Finally the time came when the man decided
To bring forth his treasure from where it resided
The people heard this and began to fear
That he would destroy what they held so dear
With joy in his heart and a smile on his face
He shattered that shell all over the place
The man was so excited to finally have revealed
His beloved treasure that for so long had been concealed
Now here it was for all the people to see
The glorious treasure in which he was well pleased
The people were unimpressed with the treasure brought forth
All they felt now was pain and remorse
To them the shell's beauty surpassed that of the treasure
The shell had a glory that was far beyond measure
They turned their backs on the treasure and the man
As for the shell, they began divising a plan
Piece by piece they put the shell back together
They exalt it on high and will worship it forever
So the man took his treasure and went on his way
He still looks for people who will love it today
But everywhere he goes and everyone he finds
Only have the shell on their hearts and their minds.
