I’ve got some big news for Lit.Org and WritingForums.com. I will be stepping aside as the fearless leader around here and handing the reigns over to my friend Peter, who I trust to keep things moving forward. I’ll still be here, I just won’t be the boss anymore ;)

This was not an over night decision. I started the sites to help other writers find a place to sharpen their skills. When I created Lit.Org there weren’t many places for writers to “workshop” their stories like that so I created one. It wasn’t just so others would have that kind of place, I wanted a place to share my own writing. Running the sites I’ve met a lot of really great people, made great friends and watched as talented writers came and went from the site. The one thing that did not happen was me having a place to share my writing. I spent more time working on the sites than working on my writing. I’ve been running Lit.Org for over 10 years now and WritingForums.com for almost 5.

As many of you know my wife Aeryn was diagnosed with Cancer last year. She’s currently in remission but last year was quite a battle for us. We’ve spent a lot of time thinking about what we want to do and how to get there and we’ve had to make a few tough decisions along the way. I want to write and now is the right time to do that.

I’ve toyed with the idea of this for the last couple of years but I had a hard time with the idea of letting someone else take over my pet projects. On top of that finding someone who has both the technical knowledge and the desire to be a leader in a community is hard to come by. I met Peter, who will be taking over here, at Sitepoint.com. He runs other community sites and knows the ins and outs as well as anyone I know. He loves what he does and after lots of talking with Peter we decided he would be the best person for the job.

I’ll be hanging around assisting Peter in the transition of both sites for as long as he needs me. After he’s comfortable with things I’m going to take a much needed break and recharge my batteries and just let go a bit. Then I’ll be back – not as an administrator, but as a writer. So I’m not leaving the site, I’m joining it.

I trust Peter to take excellent care of the place and I hope everyone gives him the same respect you gave me and give him a chance to take Lit.Org and WritingForums.com to a whole new level. This is the kind of new blood the site needs to grow and evolve. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens from the other side of the fence.

I want to give a special thanks to all the people who have supported the sites, me and my wife over the years. We’ve both made great friends and hope to continue to do so. The most rewarding thing about these sites is meeting so many warm, friendly people who also happen to be talented writers. We’ve had our fair share of trolls too and I promise I won’t become one ;)

I’ll be here for the time being to help Peter get situated and show him where all the bodies are buried, so if you have any questions in the mean time just ask me or Peter.

It has been my pleasure – thank you all so much!

Sad as I am to hear that you won't be administering the site anymore, I'm pleased to hear that you'll still be with us in other roles.

Best wishes to you and Aeryn, and many thanks for creating this place for our egos to be polished and (occasionally) cracked.

Chrispian, resigning,
Well indeed it is sad news for me, as I know it will be for many others. To have found your site was a safe haven for me.
I was introduced well over a year ago to your site by Char. I continue to grow wiser and have learned patience, consideration, understanding and to always have a good dictionary on hand!!!
I had deleted all my poems, being ill was one of the few reasons and now am reposting and adding some new ones. I do understand what serious illnesses can do to one person, family and friends, as well.
I thank you Chrispian for this site and will welcome Peter. It will be something to fill your shoes because you've been one-of-a-kind, supportive, inspiring as well. Peter I am sure will have his own shoes to make tracks through our lives, and he will gain much respect and friends here as you did.
I am glad to have known you through this site and I want you to know it is an honour. I highly respect you for all your hard work. You've gone out of your way to help me in the past via emails and I could count on you.
Aeryn has often been in my thoughts and prayers. I wish her well. I wish you both well, touching that you have one another, have grown closer through your experiences and now will continue to face the tomorrows side by side.
Thank you for being such a wonderful influence, teacher, boss and sometimes parent!!

My sincere good wishes to you and Aeryn!

a fan for always,
Darlene

Best of luck and welcome aboard!
I hope all goes well for your wife, certainly.

I understand your decision perfectly. I'm undergoing some serious changes at my end as well - which I should write something about shortly.

I look forward to seeing your creativity in a new arena! I'm expecting a different side of you! Of course this will be about something other than zeroes and ones. };]

The great Crowe
Chris

May you find your writing bones. I have no doubt that you will be on those bestseller lists in time to come. You've made a great home for many aspiring writers by creating two of the best writing sites on the web. I for one want to thank you for all your blood, sweat and tears that you put into these sites for they have bore fruit. I wish you and your wife all the best and look forward to reading and commenting on your creative writing projects.

my warmest
bob

Chrispian's news
This wonderful virtual world you nurtured and sustained for so long for us has enriched all our lives, in one way or another, a lot or a little, with new knowledge, new experiences, new friends, new ways of workshopping our work.
Of the thousands of people coming here, for one hour, one week, one year or several, many will, I am sure, forever speak highly of the value of this site, and its incomparable influence. You have created and maintained a sanctuary here, and Darlene's expression "safe haven" defines it well. No amount of verbalized gratitude, on my part anyway, could possibly suffice...

What do we do when this happens in the "virtual" world? I have no idea of the acceptable ethics here. But I do know that in the "real" world, we'd all be throwing you this huge big all-nighter of a party, Chrispian. I guess you'll just have to imagine yourself partying with us...

Welcome, of course, to Peter, and thank you, God, for Peter who takes over from Chrispian.

May Aeryn's remission extend itself all the way to cure, so that the two of you never have to have another year like last year.

And...see you on the front page!

My best,
Lucie.

Bearing flowers and vintage whisky...
... hoping to gatecrash your leaving party on the strength of my genuine gratitude.

I've come to love this site... and always wondered a bit about the faceless, selfless admin who wrote but forebore to post. I can't wait to finally read your own work, Chrispian...

re: thanks!
I really appreciate all the kind words and support from everyone. I was hoping everyone would understand my reasons and support the decision and I've been overwhelmed by the support everyone is showing. I truly apprecaite it.

Crowe
Come back soon Crowe, you'll notice I read a lot of stories here, I read Viper's, Smithy's, Strangedaze's and recently DrSoos'(and a lot by other writers). I'd like to read and of course, comment on your new works, I promise that. I am not good at critiquing style and such, but I definitely could tell you what I see, how I feel and any feedback I could give reading your stories and/or poetry. Come back soon good man!

Crowe's Rookery
Crowe,

You've inspired me to try to remember to ask my girlfriend to send five bucks to Lit.Org through her PayPal account.

Seriously, though: Do Your Thing. Hope to find you and Aeryn somewhere soon in this Web soup.

Many thanks to you, Chrispian, for the good your work at Lit.org has done for me. It has afforded me a place with other writers to read and be read. You have run the show well in the time I have been here. Also, I extend my thanks to those who have helped you in this project.

Now, where's my girlfriend...?

~ John

End of an Era
You'll be sorely missed, Crowe.

I know you'll still be around, but this just feels so final. Anyway, thanks for being there, and keeping these sites going for so long. You're an inspiration, man.

Goodbye and best blessings-
Crowe- I must admit I'm scared. You have been such a good daddy. Peter is welcome to fill the bill, but that's a big pair of shoes to step in to- Good Luck Peter, and all best wishes-
Crowe- best to you and your wife! Thanks so much for this 'real' site. You have given many people great gifts through Lit. You did good. Thanks, and best wishes-
Elizabeth

Write on, Crowe
First... Welcome, Peter! This is a good gang, though rowdy and noiseome at times (myself included) -- and I hope you'll enjoy working the crowd. If you keep the "good of the many" and the "feelings of the few" at heart, as Crowe always did, you'll do fine.

What the froonch does that mean? I have no idea. Just some Spock/Yoda/Mr.Yamaguchi-style BS wisdom to greet you.

As for you, Crowe... if you're a writer, now... let's get it on! I challenge YOU! Yes, YOU! to a write off, my friend! [picture Hulk Hogan flexing with pencils graped in biceps]!!!

Not really. Whatever writing you're doing, here or elsewhere, have at it. You know, as well as any of us, that it ain't an easy row to hoe. If there's anythine we can do for your process, let us know. If not, well... shoot us a dirty limmerick once in awhile just to stay in touch.

Thanks for Lit. I've met a bunch of people here that I'll be writing and reading and editing and critiquing with for a long time, maybe (hopefully) for life. Because of this place, I was able to end a poetic dry spell that went from around 1989 to 2003. That's a rare gift, bucko. One not easily repaid. So don't bother asking ; )

Bona fortuna.

re: retiring
Thanks again for all the kind words and support! It's going to be a blast to be able to look at this thing from the other side and hopefully not get into too much trouble ;)

Andy, I'm down for a write off. Drop me an email and once we get all the logistics out of the way of the move... lets duel!

Crowe.....
Just found this Crowe, thanks for hosting the best site on the net. Thanks for introducing me to some kindred spirits.

Yes, there certainly are times when all of us need to change our priorities and I wish you and your family every happiness for the future.

Here's to another 10 years of Lit, many of which, off and on, I intend spending with you and the other members.

Peter, who's Peter? I'm sure we'll get to know soon enough! Now maybe a 'rhyming Poet?'......

Have Fun,

Ivor

Welcome aboard, Sir!
Life is bitter
Life gets better
If you sweat life

Surely you can do better than this (Don't call me Shirley).

Aarrrghh!
