Normally,
2+2=4.
But for me,
2+2=5.
Most people I ask,
just don't get it.
However those that do,
when asked, How?
They smile and say,
you'll figure it out one day.

Grace
Don't know if your calculation uses the same math as mine, but the function I use to come up with "2+2=5" is "grace."

For so many people -- and countries, companies, families, etc. -- the idea of "I want what's coming to me," or "eye-for-an-eye" quity is what rules. That's justice. And the best you ever get from justice is 2+2=4. Frequently, all we ever get is 4-2=2. Or 4-4=0.

With grace, however, "2+2=5" is possible. So is "2+2=cheese cake." Grace opens up the possibility that we are not part of a closed system that is a "zero-sum" game. Where every happiness you experience must come at an expense in mine. Where your joy costs me sorrow.

Grace brings us the opposite of a "vicious cycle." It is a "righteous cycle," where each turning brings joy, forgiveness, peace and hope to those who participate.

Mercy is the activator of grace, by the way. Without mercy -- the act of not demanding your "2" -- there can be no grace. There can be no "5."

That's my take on this neat piece, anyway.

Addition
To me, two + two has equaled as many disfunciontioned four, and five and six and seven, and it grows exponetionally as my children grow and involve others in their worlds.
Mostly, it is an abismal pit, other times (or through more optimistic eyes) it is a raging river of emotion that can be dammed and streamed into beautiful art and articulation of life -
it all sucks, or it's all glorious...
For me, it depends on the day, but, generally, I choose to see the glorious-
Always, you bring out my thinking side, and I thank you for that-
