Hello there. So what do you want to talk about? Ahhh, the City 14 Massacre? Yes, i was there. Only coffee. No thanks, I don't smoke. You might have heard that during those days we did not have equipment on such a standard like today? All we had were Automatic Rifles and very poor, still in development Armour. I was one of the newest members of Alpha Company, I went through 5 missions and was waiting for some more action. Our Captain came to us one day and said that we are sent to City 14. A small alien force attacked it and the Defenders could not cope with it. During those days Alpha Company consisted of only 14 men, but well equipped. We were given experimental suits of armour and plasma rifles. Everybody was excited, just like the scientists who wanted to see how did the armour work in hostile environment.

Captain Kowalski sat in the transporter's seat and looked at the tactical map of their LZ. They were sent to the very core of the alien attack. Intelligence report that they will face a Grey assault force backed up by "flying discs". His company was prepared for more that just a couple round heads. The co-pilot appeared in the hold.
"5 minutes sir." the captain nodded. As the co-pilot disappeared back into the cabin the captain addressed the men.
"Get read! We have 5 minutes." all the soldiers loaded up their weapons and put on their helmets. They stood up and formed two columns in front of the rear hatch. The ship slowly descended and the sounds of battle came from around them. The light next to the hatch was red. The ship landed but nothing yet happened. Suddenly the light turned to green and the hatch immediately opened. The men started to run out.

What do I think about it? The operation was well planned, the equipment did not fail. We all knew that during a battle in the city anything can happen. You may be killed, captured, ripped apart, or infected. We all had that in mind. What caused it? Possibly we were just too sure of our victory, or maybe the intelligence forgot to mention that the aliens also had something special for us...

The men formed a half circle and opened fire at the hidden aliens. When the sound of bullets stopped one of the men went forward braking the formation and ran behind a wall. The Captain looked in disbelief when the troop showed them that they should go forward. Suddenly something came flying toward the troops. An explosion erupted and men flew into the air. The Captain knelled down and looked around but could not see any aliens. Another missile came flying their way, blowing up another fraction of the company.
"Take some cover!" shouted Kowalski but the men were too terrified to react. Two more explosion erupted between the men and even the Captain started to flee toward the ship which did not fly away yet. As he was running he dropped his rifle and prayed that the hatch did not close. He was the only one who reached it and as he looked at the remains of his company he got struck by the fact that they were all dead. A shout came from somewhere, but the brain did not register it quick enough. Another missile exploded next to the captain, killing him instantly. His eyes only registered something like a shadow entering the ship and then he saw only darkness.

I was the only survivor. When I saw the explosions I tried to find the attackers but they were well hidden. I could see the captain was still alive and I shouted to him to run inside the ship but he did not listen and the next missile hit him. I ran through the corpses of my comrades kicking away their organs and body parts. The aliens opened fire and their shots came buzzing by my head like bees. Two hit me. One in the arm and one in the back. I thought I would die. When I ran inside the ship the hatch closed and I could feel the transporter was taking off. the co-pilot ran to me and asked what happened, but I simply could not answer. I was the only one who survived, the armour stopped the alien shots and I was far enough from the explosions not to be touched by the shrapnel. Nobody believed the whole company was annihilated, all the equipment lost, destroyed. This taught our commanders one thing, and the scientists something different. Within a month all the companies were equipped with Version-1 Body Armour and Plasma or Laser Rifles. The Alpha Company? New men were trained, but it would never be the same again. Many veterans were lost on that mission. Me? I was promoted. I became captain. And for one thing, since that mission, Alpha Company never failed again. Now excuse me, I must be off, I have a high priority meeting in 10 minutes.
