She covers up her lines
Hasn't got much to say
Goes to bed for dinner
End always finds its way

Dressed each and every morning
As if for an audition
I watched her put on lipstick
A heighten to condition

She's life imitating art
Like a light
You turn on when it's night
She's life imitating art

No surface visual
All substance under skin
Waning of her youth
A sexist God's sin

So she covers up lines
With little left to say
Goes to bed with dinner
Always payed her way

She's life imitating art
Like a light
You turn off and on at night
She's life imitating art

She may be in trouble
With powers that be
But need have no fear
Explaining things to me

In stillness of another night
As lesser bodies scheme
She'll be appearing
In a favorite dream

She's life imitating art
Like a light
A turn on when it's night
She's life imitating art

Like a light
Turned off and on at night
She's life imitating art

Lucie likes working girl
"End" is justified by means, "dinner" being her patron, as well as result of patronage..

Ambiguity was intended. She exists within uncertain world, hardly one of love.

Never recorded this one..

chap1/Of patron scripted acts
Thanks for reading and letting me know.

Imitating intimately
Lucie gets a queenly, eccentric movie actress - I get a sort of inverted Blanche Dubois, sad and uncertain, disappearing slowly into constructed self. Either way... cool wordplay. And lyrics which really read like a song.

'As lesser bodies scheme' - I like that.

Caitlin/ Cryptic Theatre of Street
If there was video to accompany this, "light" in seedy motel room, as well as neon lights of city streets, would play parts.

She has "little left to say," having seen and done pretty much all, performing patron-scripted acts..It is not art of love, but an illusory/ she performs/"appears," in fantasies ("favorite dream")...

Thank you kindly,

bobby this is the first poem i read for you , and it's beautiful it definatley got me hooked and after i finish writing this comment i'm gonna go read everything else you wrote.
it was really visual , i could see this as a short film played by Naomi Watts maybe , i could hear the sound of jazz playing and could see her walking down the hall to her room in that seedy hotel, She is a strong character with a bitter sweet fragility that makes her irrisistable. i really loved it.
thanks for sharing,

Have been penning lyrics for 3 decades. "She's Life.." -1986.

Appreciate your interest. Have over 140 posts here, so don't expect you to read all. "Starring Us" and "What Angels Do," are recent lyrics you may find of interest. For poems, "Relentless" and "She Is" would be good start, as well as "Journey."

Am not up to speed with your work here. Will look for.

Thanks again,

Extravagant # noted. Penned nearly two decades ago. Have posted 20 or so lyrics here. Don't feel this is one of best. I like more recent ones, like: "Starring Us," ot "What Angels Do."

For reading and letting me know, much thanks.

Hiba- I like your latest avatar.

This is an oldie..Glad you found something of interest within.

Been putting most recent pieces in vault.

Have just submitted a "blog," penned a few weeks ago, during big ice storm.

Hope your year ahead is inspiring and filled with joy.
