There is talk, rumour on the breeze;
They speak of new light in the East.
Burning it's way to us,
from beyond the edge of the city,
Over the hills and further still.

Offended by our shadows,
It comes to threaten our nighttime.
Scorching the dreams from our minds,
Making us wake and wary.

Leave our paradise, leave us alone!
Don't bring your daylight!
Contentment has not a better home
In our nighttime.

Come to blind us for a little while
And then leave again,
Not to be missed while we dream again.
Let us sleep!
