Memory

Fickle? In a way-
when born, pays so little attention
to reality
This is how I remember so clearly
Flying
A mere few yards above the ground
under the power of my own jump
without even flapping my arms.

Fleeting? In a way-
All to often fades to black
or shades of grey and shadow
This is how I remember so little
Father
A great man with twinkling eyes
but whose face I would not know
If it were not for pictures

Forever? In a way-
once established, maintains a hold
Neither fact nor intention can break
This is how we argue
Convinced
Of the rightness of our side
the he said, she said sequence
so sure our memory is true
