Salty showers

soothing warm waters
cascading down my face
covering the tracks
of so many painful memories

the older I become
the deeper the gorges
allowing the salt
to eat away battered skin

tattooed with dirt
that can not be cleansed
hope on a rope
toys with the grime

now I know what it means
not to pour salt on open wounds
but who can stop the rain......
