Midnight; the sky is black
And blue and amethyst, all at once
But as flat and factual
As a sea polished stone.

I reach up; I can touch it
Plucking cosmic bits between my fingertips,
Like sand it escapes my grip,
Sliding slow down my arm.

I spread it out; it is a threadbare blanket
I wrap myself in at night,
Feebly attempting to block out the light
But from between the fibers, I see the glimmers, the starlight.

I soak into it, slow and content
A warm bath in quicksand
And rock gently with the planet's tide;
Carried in the empyrean lullaby.

She falls softly down from towering pedastools...
