***written to quickly to be 'poetry', this is a multiple haiku- work in progress -***

Horrors -only eight-
over-shadow now any
happiness that was

But a wisp of girl
in unimaginable
ways ripped and ruptured

What did she witness
What was she forced to endure
What part can survive

Could be my neighbor
Could be my darlin' daughter
Could be yours as well

Registration smedge-
istration Brand their foreheads
with a big 'S P'

"Scarlet Letter"-esque
Warn us if you know they are
free to prowl again

Now he'll go to jail
Free meals and full health cov'rage
plus cable t.v.

Someone's sure to find
him bending in the shower
make him pay a bit

She will spend her life
Waking and walking nightmares
all day, every day

Mother and brothers
dead before her eyes and what
more will fill her mind

May Shasta one day heal
May she find some allayment
My heart breaks for her

Send Shasta prayers
Send congressmen a letter
Help protect children

Shasta
???????....Charmer

Charmr- Shasta
Shasta is the the eight year old girl found alive with the sexual predator, released only a month before (with a criminal history of rape dating back to 1980), who apparently killed her mother, brother, and mom's boyfriend and then dissappeared with Shasta and her 9 year old brother. The nine year old seems to be dead, but Shasta, at least is alive.

Elizabeth - Shasta
I would suggest drop the multiple-haiku plan, this is already a poignant, thought-provoking poem. Stories like these often repel me, I am not too brave dealing with such as I have a five-year-old daughter. I am the over-protective type of dad, always panicking and apprehensive. I am glad you wrote this prayer, maybe not just for Shasta but for the safety of all the children of the world. Namaste

Shasta
Elizabeth, I am glad you wrote about this, my thoughts are to mumbled to be readable. I was so happy about her being found, so angry at the system and so heartbroken about her brother. The tragedy this little girl has witnessed and lived is too much to comprehend. And in spite of it all she smiles. She is a hero.

Nae/Peter -Shasta
Nae, Thank you for taking time to read and comment. Mother, too, kids are home and I have so little time to play here. I try to read a bit every week and have read your beautiful, sultry poetry. I envy both your writing ability and your love. In a good way.
Shasta's story is haunting. Sure to be turned into a t.v. movie. I hate being such a cynic, but at least she can benefit from such horror. We are a breed that loves to "rubber-neck", aren't we?
But you know, as do I, she will never have her mother's arms around her again. Instead, the nightmares of what she has endured.
Can you believe he was incustody a month before the murders?!
I feel sick.

Thanks for your time Nae. Best to ya-

Elizabeth

Oh! Peter! Sorry, Nae got me off on a tangent! So nice to see you.
I'm gonna leave this as is, cause it's a blog, for that very reason. I was caught up in the horror of this story and it came out in haiku-ishness. This is by no means a serious poem, but run-on thought for the terror of the situation. Keep protecting your babies. It's what we're supposed to do. (just makes me so sad what we have to protect them from...)
blessings, Peter-
