In tattered bloody rags
we stand for democracy,
but democracy isn't
what it once was...
not on our shores.

The definition of democracy:
governement by the people,
exercised either directly
or through ELECTED
representatives.

Think about it.

I read your poems
rich and sweet
then lay roses at
your feet.

thinking about it
Hi Char,
Tonight I have a little time to read, and if don't get too caught up in comments, read more. Stopped here first and your write is thought provoking, simply stated, and elegant as far as writing goes. That part came as no surprise.
Your thoughtfulness was no surprise either. I feel your frustration.
Eternal optimist, am I; the pendulum swings. There seems to be an ebb and flo to politics, until the day that the masses are all so dumbed-down that we don't care, or so numbed and/or addicted that we remain oblivious.
We always seem to be approaching this stage, yet poets and artists and scientists and philosophers and writers -visionaries... always seem to emmerge- I hope... ;)
"Farenheit 451" springs to mind again. Poor Millie, and poor, poor Clarice...
Enjoyed. Best to you-
Elizabeth

Thanks Emaks
Thank you for your thoughts on this subject. I agree with you. It is a frustrating thing; politics. Some are so complacent while others are not. It's a push-pull type of thing. I try to steer clear of politics but now and then I feel compelled to say something. Whether I am quiet on the subject or not though, the subject sits heavy in my mind. It's good to see you and hear from you. :)

Always,
Char

Bedtime for democracy
Simple yet complete. Common sense is not so common anymore. I really like this one and I share your opinion.
