our air was Fall
burning
we kicked our way through colours
dry leaves made swishing sounds
returning to Earth
like a million bombs over Hanoi

our hair grew long
minds and bellies expanded
thanks to Campus Nook's grilled sticky buns
washed down with fruited-oranges
alongside student union's grassy bank
beneath novas and VW's

gasoline creeked its way down hill
we could have lit night sky
being student deferment blessed
we fired only within ourselves
as multicoloured mass appeared over freshman hall
where "Voodoo Child" floated from open window

this giant pyramid briefly hovered
its lights seemingly danced with Jimi
before streaking away lightning-quick
leaving bank we held in stillness
we reflected among fallen colours
burning

re: UFO
My parents were "hippies" and I have often heard them speak of all those things you say in your poem. My mother is a member of the Mutual UFO Network. They have many photos of orbs and other unidentified floating/flying objects in the night sky. Fascinating really. Charming mini-story within a poem.

FelineWhip-"Beneath Novas"
FWhip- Well, I wasn't a "hippie," but I sure was in middle of it. Those, were "heady" days/nights.. This is true story..

Thanks for reading and letting me know.

Bobby...Vodoo Child

It sounds like you and I were stuck in that period were we were not hippies, but torn between either being a "burn-out, Punk Rocker, or Disco head. I like all kinds of music. Jimi is one of my husband's favorites, and he can play "Red House" to the t.
I belive that's where poems id going. correct me if I'm wrong.

Stuck between two poles, and a cool read.

macbeth- "Imagine"
Laura- I was a student activist. Wrote for University rag, as well as "underground" paper, which was much better. We told truth!

Was into music, big time. And, yes, I was "experienced."

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!

Experienced head tripper sees tutti-frutti inversion! For reals!

Bobbert, this takes the cake - and ice cream cone. You've torched my brain. How does one comment on this?? Perhaps the comment will find me?

Ummmmmmmmm.... I can definitely see/hear/read the different 'voice' in the different sections here. (stanzas). There has been a change at the end. Why wouldn't there be?

So "fruited-oranges". What's that? What 'the'?

Of course, I have to ask: "then what"?

Bobby, imagine all the people

Bobby,

Double cool, you were doing all that great stuff, that people should be doing now (with the war and shit), while I was playing with Barbie dolls.

I wish I had been "experienced" then.
What is sad, is the truth doesn't matter now, that's if we are even getting it at all.
Music played a big part of it that's true. Now we got shit. Few bands talk about what is really going on in the world.

"Fruited- orange"
Lans- Fresh OJ, with banana and whatever in season (peach) and a cherry, blended with ice.

There is much going on here...

Yes, we were changed.

Then we helped end U.S. involvement in an insane conflict.

Jacko Goes Free
Laura- Watching freak, who admits to sleeping with SAME 12-13 yr old boy, for 365 straight nights, caravan back to Neverland. Wooooo!

Bobby,

That's just utterly disgusting...goes to show what money can buy.

Unbievable Freak Objects
Laura- Yeah, if you have a guest(age 12 and you are in 40's), just happen to sleep in your bed with you for a night, it's a sleep over. If it's 365 nights in a row, I'd say it's a relationship. Guess if you pick correct disfunctional family and you are rich, you can do it.

Did you see my "Jacko" senryu/poem?

Bobby...fuck OJ too

Bobby, OJ is free regardless of his balance due
He almost decapitated the mother of his children.
Life is ugly sometimes.

I'll check out your poem,

UFO hijacking
Laura*- To clarify, I see OJ as #1 scum. Jacko is #1a scum, only because he didn't actually "murder" anyone. Neither are worthy of mercy.

*Gotta watch "subject line" language...

Bobby...pardon my @#$mouth

Okay B/Gotta,

I gottcha, I'll be more proper and behave myself.

I like your scum 1, then scum 1a...very clever.

On hijacking a UFO
Laura- Yeah, we must defer to house rules. "PG" may seem a bit strict, but that's way it is. Of course, just below in comment space, you can talk "smack/smut."

Nostalgic?
I feel that this poem is somehow nostalgic. It's images fill my mind with moon lit nights and running through the forests.
A very good read though.

tap5K: Recalling UFO incident
tap5K- Using recollection, yes...But "wistful and excessively sentimental," as "nostalgic" would imply, I think not. This is an "anti-war" poem, recalling/using another time (Viet Nam era),to show the "changes/choices" we go through. I was 17, at time. Call it a "conscientious compression."

The UFO part really happened. Next day, papers and TV reported sitings all over area.

Thanks for reading and letting me know.

Bobby, I missed UFOs
Not being here, wowzers.

I really like this one, it does bring back memories. I was a hippy teeny-bopper. Loved peace, smoking pot, watching all types of UWOs, UDOs, UFOs too. All that mattered was music, peace, my friends, peace, etc.

I could write stories on all my adventures. Really was pathetic, but peaceful. (ha!)

Nice poem, glad I am catching up!

Dar

Darlene- Was just at your "Butterfly" poem. You and Tina have a theme going today...

Yes, those were "heady" times.

Thanks,
B

( Posted by: Bobby7L [Member] On: June 15, 2005 )

Bobby,
Yes, there is a theme going on,,,Char has a Beetle poem, in Children's writing, Flonigus has one of crickets, all put on today....I haven't read them all, but I am sure there are other spring time newness in poems and stories....

Dar

Beetle Beats
Darlene- Loved Char's "Beetle" piece.. Will find other one...

There could be much worse "theme" than that which Spring brings...Hope/renewal
