For you this Confirmation
The last child step in our religion's stations
Showing your understanding of God's deserved prostration

We, as Catholics fare many contradictions
Such are the crosses we accept in our benedictions
Reminders of wisdom learned from our many traditions
Yet we understand and believe in face of scholarly omissions

Before the Trinity, an Adult you now stand
Our Bishops and Cardinals have deemed you a man
Now listen, my nephew, to my experience at hand
Men need to gobble up wisdom as much as they can
From this you shall learn, else face first you'll land
That God's ways are more subtle, and countless, than all grains of all sand

You'll find in your heart where God's chosen you to go
It is never very quick, and it's a very long rope to tow
And in this great wide world, there's much garbage and wickedness to stow
So use your mind, your heart, your honesty, and lessons you know
They will guide you, support you and lift you when misery's garden you must hoe
God's gift is quite great, immeasurably so, your life and your soul to him do you owe

You'll make friends in your life who've chosen a different path
Some Jewish, some Buddhist, Wicca, Agnostic and Baath
They're as many religions as people, so you do the math
WE believe in God, just fully, not half.

But judge not the course of other peoples ways
For it will come haunting at the end of all days
When Jesus asks you about what the 'first stone throwing parable' says
You may find yourself spending eternity, in a glass house looking cage

Finding that others follow not our belief
Actually fosters in me a certain amount of relief
As God's taught us that if allowed, the world can have Peace
But it won't come from rulers, pontifs, or political hands being greased

Peace will come with great effort, I'm sure this you know
It will come from the planting of Peace seeds that we sew
Humanity's effort on this farming, and tilling as backbreaking work goes
Despite setbacks, hypocrisy, injustice, intolerance and prejudice woes
Tiny evidence of better life through loving neighbors allows a small sprout to grow
Unfortunately too often we're led astray, and our effort to not is only so-so

So when you have had too much jumble stuck in your ears
And your heart is in pain, and your eyes full of tears
When nobody will actually LISTEN to even just some of your fears
Or you're dogged down to submission, either by the fam or your peers
Just remember God's with you, will be, and has been for years

It may not be a thought quite so comforting now
Especially when you can only quietly scream "HOW!!?"
I can tell you from that pain of crying "Why ME?! Why the punishment now!!??"
That there is infinitely more to His wisdom, thus to this lesson I bow:
...
God expects you to help yourself, meaning work whole heartedly hard in all things you do; for if you have put your soul in your work, and lived it and loved Him you will decidedly find, that if with your own hands you are already breaking your back tilling, God will be there to help, hold, and love you... with the farm already been ploughed.
