Here we are, again
friends, just friends
for everyone to see.
And yet, just beneath
the cool smile, the amiable clasp
of one hand to another
lies the truest sense of us.
A moment, a fleeting moment
whenís heavenís gates,
thrown wide open,
showed me that endless sea
of all that I am
and could ever hope to be.
So smile dear friend,
grace this dimmed existence
with the brilliance of pearls,
blood red lips and sweet greetings.
Tell me about the weather
with feigned indifference
as though all we are is this
and nothing more.
Laugh delightfully, pleased
with pleasant conversation
and I will play the game too.
the steady eyes aflame
my wooden smile carved just the same
Yes, Iíve never seen
skies so blue and the grass,
so gently caressed by the breeze,
that lovely verdant hue.
Behind a wisp of smiles and
conversational tones
the sound of a sundered hearts,
and wounded spirits.
I cannot help but wonder,
as I bear your smile,
Is that an echo of my pain
or the distant rumble of thunder,
and the sound of coming rain?
