The child within slumbers
like a lullaby so deep
It has no worrries, fears or pain
until I summons it from sleep.

The child within is safe
from harm and hate
Nestled in my heart and soul
in such a fragile state.

The child within awakens
suddenly with startled fears
Recoiling with memories
Thought forgotten through the years.

This child within me is myself
The one I can't forget
My shadowed helpless former self
That now I can protect.

The child within is smiling
with harmony and mirth
It's learned to sing and dance
to celebrate a new rebirth.
