Theres a little envelope
on the table unopened
he already knows what it says
it sat for a week
before he could finally read
confirming that she had gone away
it aint like it seems
you cant run a heart on dreams
still he thought she might let him carry on
carry on when the dream was even gone

And he'd be with her now
If only he knew how
but I guess it's been to long anyway
so he pours himself a drink
sits on the porch to think
and wonders if he's the one to blame
drinkin dont take the place
his heart has when he sees her face
the feeling that he will always hold
Leave the keys in the mailbox when you go

Theres a picture by his bedside
that reminds him every night
He knows she is the best there is around
But the next one she will love
will never bring that up
Hell he wont even know
what he has found
That sour faced city kid
a lawyers son because he's rich
will take her directly from his arm
But who can blame anybody anymore

And he'd be with her now
If only he knew how
but I guess it's been to long anyway
so he pours himself a drink
sits on the porch to think
and wonders if he's the one to blame
drinkin dont take the place
his heart has when he sees her face
the feeling that he will always hold
Leave the keys in the mailbox when you go

Now it's a good thing she ain't hear
to see those bitter tears
spill off his cowboy boots onto the floor
and it's a good thing he ain't alive
to witness her stomp on his pride
and turn it like a crop beneath the soil
God bless this life he'll always say
and even if your feeling pain
be thankul for all that you have had
even if she's never coming back

And he'd be with her now
If only he knew how
but I guess it's been to long anyway
so he pours himself a drink
sits on the porch to think
and wonders if he's the one to blame
drinkin dont take the place
his heart has when he sees her face
the feeling that he will always hold
Leave the keys in the mailbox when you go
Leave the keys in the mailbox when you go

strange little piece
over all I enjoyed the poem. I know you used no punctuation to help get the feeling of the poem across, but it would clarify the poem for me with a little punctuation.

I really liked this piece.

(Second last stanza, first verse, last word -- "hear" should probably be "here".)

Nice work on this; touching, really.
