What an interesting chain of events! And how "strange" that my copy of "the Vulture and The Eagle" turned into "the black eye". Thank you all for your thoughts and comments ... and I did indeed get a chuckle out of this development. I've decided to wait to fix the mix-up until after the REAL Black eye is published if it is accepted. It is as follows:

Don't tell me now, just let me guess...
This patch upon your eye.
You walked into a swinging door
That didn't quite swing by.
You cannot blame it on your wife.
A wife you haven't got.
How 'bout a hot discussion
That became a bit too hot?

If it was for a worthy cause
Or something you believe
Don't cover it. Just skip the patch.
There is no cause to grieve.
It isn't nice, I realize
At others to poke fun.
But something 'bout a shiner that
Brings smiles from everyone.

As mother of three little girls
That give me lots of joy,
I can't help won'dring how I'd be
About a little boy.
How would I feel if he came home
Hand up to hide the news.
I don't imagine I would find
Much cause to be amused.

But memories of other eyes
And stories we've all heard
Will make us tease you endlessly.
No mercy - not a word.
You stubbed your toe and banged your head.
You swiped a kiss - or not?
The endless possibilities
Will tantalize the thought.

And then to have to go to church
And solo in the choir.
To stand up front and have to watch
The smiling you inspire...
The best of sermons could be lost
Against such odd as those.
You could have chose a better time
To "stumble" I suppose.

Of all the things it could have been
My hope is most sincere
That yours is not as serious
As now it may appear.
You'll have your chance to kid us back.
Some other eye will shine.
And since I've teased you worst of all
You prob'ly hope it's mine.
