The Eagle and the Vulture soared
upon the air so clear.
And I upon my mountain sat
and watched the two from here.
They soared and rode the thermal drafts
and eyed the earth below.
The one a hated scavenger,
one, honor we bestow.

I wonder, "What's the difference?"
as I contemplate the two.
Their mission is the same
but such a different point of view.
The vulture soars and circles
till his prey is really dead.
Then settles down and hops around
and finally on its head.

The eagle stays aloft
until he finds a living thing.
Then swoops with all his might.
Then closing talons, flaps his wing ...
And rises, taking with, the creature
caught within his grasp.
And carries it aloft alive
in pain enough to gasp.

The wonder of it is:
We seem to honor eagles more.
For being cruel to others,
be it now or days before.
The vulture goes upon his way
his mission to complete.
He cleans away the carrion and besides,
he gets to eat.

I know to some it's yucky for the one
to eat what's dead.
I pity more the eagles prey
to be eaten alive instead.
Consider your own dinner plate.
Red meat and veggies green.
Did you contribute to the kill?
Or eat it "Live and Mean."

The moral of this story is:
we each must do our part.
There's room for everybody
and there is still room for heart.
We must not be judgmental
but we must each do our jobs.
The planet will support us if
we do not act like slobs.

Gramma's "Eye"
Gramma, This is a highly entertaining, as well as thought provoking piece. Our "perceptions" make me wonder, too. Thanks for the read.
