The view outside my window
Fills my heart with pure delight.
The snow is slowly sifting
And the flakes are huge and bright.
The lilac bush across the yard
Seems suddenly in bloom
With heavy snowflake blossoms
Softly dazzled by the moon.

The trees seem snipped from parchment
Etched with ink-bark wet and black.
The streetlight wears a halo
That the darkness pushes back.
The spruce is crowned with sparklets
And the heavy boughs bend low.
No hint of breeze to mar the scene
That God has sculpted so.

And though my heart is filled
And in my soul I feel content,
There is a special part of me
That stirs, my peace to rent.
If I could but an artist be
And capture what I see.
Then I could share with you
This lovely, deep tranquility.

The silence and the beauty
Make itself felt everywhere.
The strangest thing about it is
Already it's not there.
For having had the thought
Of how I wish to share with you,
I'm painfully aware if you were here
You'd feel it too.
