Set free as a caged animal in the night
Resistance is a real hard fight
Like unwanted memories it comes back to me
All the tricks in the book won’t remedy
Passing from person to person, through the room
A signal that the day has met it's doom
A battle fought each and every time
Exaggerated movements, like a mime
Hand over mouth, eyes closed tight
Next person notices with surprise and fright
Wait a few seconds, then they yawn too
There’s nothing else they could possibly do
Vicious cycle we’re cursed to endure
Answers and hints we have tried to procure
Medically we known what goes on
But why on Earth do we have to yawn
No rhyme or reason, no purpose at all
Except to check our pride before we fall
For a yawn reveals our humanity
It shows a healthy level of insanity
Yet we fight to be rid of it, fight to be free
