“Only the good die young”
So I have been told
And…it has begun
I’m beginning to see it unfold
This pattern
This sick joke
That has been played
On us all
And I weep
For the sordid soul
Who started it all
And I don’t understand
I can’t comprehend
I beg you God, why?
Do the young have to die?
I see no “purpose”
In their death
No joy
No comfort
In their passing
What reason could You
How do You defend yourself?
Why can't they live?
You refuse to speak
You deny me
The ONLY answer
That I seek

RIP Gina Hunt
Age 14

Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass,
of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind

Good Die Young

I can fully relate to the feelings and questions you ask in this poem. I originally was only going to comment on this piece, then I noticed you had several posts.

They are all excellent, your talent as a poet shines through. The feelings , although angry and sad at the moment, are perfectly expressed within your words. I wondered how I had missed your poetry and then realised that you have only been posting over a period in which I have had little time to visit Lit.

Although a lot of your work has not been commented on, had I the time or, had I read them earlier I would have responded to every piece!

Your work is good, but on a lighter note, if you aspire to be an English teacher, I would return to your Bio and correct the spelling of English!(only a typo LOL),

Look forward to more of your work,

Megan's Question...
Good piece of writing. Out of sadness, inspiration shared. Keep writing and seeking answers.

Hits home
This hits home for so many people. However...

That popular song (Only the Good Die Young) was playing every day on the radio when I was in school. One girl in particular, used to rush down the hallways of the highschool singing it out - just to see if she could get away with being so disruptive.

She was a sophomore when she died. A guy from our local area - well known for getting into trouble and his parents' coffers getting him out of it - picked her up one night to party.

Her parents, of course, thoughts she was in her bedroom asleep.

The two of them broke into the home of an elderly lady who they knew was in the hospital and stole her car. Driving around drinking - fully intending to return the car - they got into an accident.

He did not take her to the hospital because he was afraid to be caught. He threw her out of the car, leaving her bleeding beneath a tree. They found her the next day - dead, of a fairly minor injury that had simply bled too long.

She was wrong. She had emraced anything that she percieved as wrong or offensive. She died young.

I lost several classmates before graduation. All were the rebels. Being so young, this left quite an impression on me - especially due to the vivid memory of Cindy, running down the hallway at school (late for class because she had been in the bathroom smoking pot and copying homework) singing that song.

Yes, many young, innocent people die. I wonder sometimes if it is a loving God - who sees what they would be facing if they stayed on this globe longer - taking them home early as an act of love and preservation.

Doesn't it seem that every questions provokes an answer, and every answer provokes a new question?

Thanks for the wonderful poem.
