Rainy parking lot,
An iridescent puddle
Flows down the blacktop.

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana. - Groucho Marx

Is My Car Leaking Fluid
Gosh, I really like it. I'm no haiku expert but I know in their traditional Japanese form, they usually described nature. Well, the city is now part of nature. And you could hardly write a more unified poem.
I, too, believe that writing should get down to the real. But for me, concepts are almost as real as people and parking lots.

sean: Glad you like the "Leak"
Thanks for commenting!

Backstory (not that you asked for it!): It was in the parking lot of a Big Lots store, of all places! (Closeout discount store, sometimes known as Odd Lots. Specialty: cheap crap, but sometimes it's really good crap.) It was beautiful, like an abalone stream, and it just kept going and going! I couldn't take my eyes off it, and I wished I'd had a digital camera with me. It's the first time in my life I actually scrambled for the only "scribble on" and "scribble with" I could find: a Post-It note pad from my purse, and the pencil in my glove compartment, just to try to capture in words what I couldn't capture visually.

Of course, I also had the ambivalence of wondering if it was safe to get onto the interstate. For all I knew, this thing of beauty represented the lifeblood of some vital component of my car, completely drained! (It wasn't.)

After I got home, tweaked the wording a bit, and posted the 'ku, I wasn't sure I'd done it justice. Glad you dug it. Not my favorite work, but it captured a moment.

Now, aren't you sorry you said anything? Don't get me started - you know how I get! ; )
