The black dragon comes swiftly
On the wings of a black cloud
Breathing black flames
Of eternal damnation
And destruction

The aged of heart
Mind, body, and soul
Have time to prepare
To resist the attack
To accept
What their fate holds

But the young
The innocent
They have no chance
No time to think
Not even to glance
At what their future
May have held

And the powers that be
Show no mercy
Unleashing the black dragon
Of death
Without a second thought
Such brutality cannot be taught

The dragon comes
Sweeping over the hills
Bypassing many
To destroy one
One whose life
Has only just begun

And this is the fate of the young
They have the right
The right to fear the night
To fear the coming
To fear the end
To fear that
The black dragon
Will Seize them.

Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass,
of glory in the flower;
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind

(William Wordsworth)
