She’s such a small person
For every step I take she takes double to keep up
Her little hand grips my finger as we walk
So that she doesn’t get lost in the crowd
Of holiday shoppers on a mission
It’s such a strange feeling
Having responsibility over a life
Albeit a small life
It’s a life none the less

Her eyes are too big for her face
But in that precious innocent way
As we wander past stores she’s forbidden to enter
I remember how simple life was then
When all I cared about was playing in the plastic castle
They had on display at the toy store
Her tiny voice pulled me from my memory
As we neared the all too familiar display
Of battery powered dogs barking and Barbie dolls on sale

"I like to think that the whole world is my friend"
