It wasn't just the joy
Of measuring the ingredients
Smelling the brown sugar and
Cinnamon I add to make them special

It wasn't the sticky maple syrup
Over the melted butter which
Seeped into the gridwork of
My favorite breakfast treat

It wasn't the way they ate them
Quickly, while they were still hot
Freshly from the maker that
I got for last Christmas

It was the look in your eye
That said you knew I cared enough
To get up early and make waffles
And that you cared for me too

**I really do have an odd obsession with waffles and I thought I would also post my favorite recipe for them.

Oatmeal Waffles
1.5 C. Flour
1 C. Quick Oats
1 T. Baking Powder
1/2 t. Cinnamon
2 eggs
1.5 C. Milk
6 T. Melted butter
2 T. Brown sugar

Mix all together and use in any waffle iron. Makes 5-6 waffles. Enjoy!**

I love this poem, I love waffles! This piece makes me think of Laura Esquivel's Like Water for Chocolate, though of course I must commend you for writing this with such originality incomparable to the novel I mentioned. This is very romantic. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed this piece. I too, love food. In fact I'm attending culinary school, I love it so much. When I "grow up", I want to be a food stylist. Yay. And write poetry on the side, of course...
