Two mighty roses
Standing tall amidst the pavement
Together in their fight
Though a single foot may cause lament
They will stand tall today

A fisherman stops and stares
At such odd beauty in the wake
Of constructed black expanse
A symbol from these two he takes
He smiles for the first time in memory

A homeless joins him in staring
At hope existing in the shadow
Of bitter ugly conquest
These flowers will never bow
They stand tall together

A little boy wanders by
Stopping to look at the red
That penetrates the conformity
The eldest man saw the boy and said,
“It's the good times that we live for.”

Here stand two men, two warriors
One who hasn’t a place to sleep
The other has failed at his trade
But it's not the riches that they want to reap
From life itself, they live for roses

They will struggle
Much as the roses do
Against the failure and the cold
Just to see the precious few
Times of beauty in their lives.

Stay metal!
