Well, I thought I would never write a rant, but my diary of events this week is so amusing I thought I may share it!

Monday:
Having cleanly snapped a tooth away at the root on Friday I attended the dentist. Removed two lower front teeth as he said the one next to it was supported by it! Would have done it over two days but have been called o a meeting tomorrow.

Tuesday:
Attended a meeting in Birmingham in the afternoon. Fairly late meeting considering it is 200 miles round trip.

Well, now have no job... ends in Febuary despite the fact we have the best 'measured' customer satisfaction index in the company and industry. No sense in discussing the issues as these were simply profit motivated.

Face swollen and severe toothache all day.

Wednesday::
Normal days work, but had been up all night with pain from face, phoned dentist and arranged an appointment for after my hospital eye appointment on Friday. Cannot go tomorrow as I have another redundancy meeting in Scotch Corner 175 miles away!

Thursday:
Up all night face even worse, have not eaten any solids for days now and this is starting to wear me down.

Early start for meeting, called at Eric's on the way as he lives in Cumbria. Still cannot eat and face painful.

20 minute meeting, to be told nothing I didn't know except that we would now finish in January, only job available only half current wage(although current earnings would be protected for a while) and outside my managerial or technical qualifications. 350 mile drive for twenty minute meeting!

Friday:
Really bad night with pain from extraction.

9am hospital appointment. 3 hour wait to see consultant, confirmed I need the lens removing from my pupil and replaced by plastic! ( I knew this 2 months ago), finally put on a 3 month waiting list but marked up to take any cancelled appointment.
Could speed this up if I have the odd 2000 to spare but probably will not.

Attended dentist, xrayed and told they could see nothing wrong, put on antibiotics and pain killers.

Saturday:
Another bad night, actually nothing wrong with my body that removing my head wouldn't cure!

Off to Bangor, North Wales to do two inspections booked late, after the light has gone! Another 150 mile round trip for a hour's productive work!

Mouth hurting all day and getting fairly hungry, have not been able to eat properly for days!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When profit guides the needs of man,
The wise withdraw to where they can,
Look closely at just what they need,
Although it's true you must succeed,
In feeding family and provide,
The things that keep us all alive.
When things look bleak and fall apart,
Look deep for what is in your heart.
Don't let the bastards grind you down,
Or even let them see you frown.
Just bare your soul for all to see,
A winner you will always be.
But I don't care the deed is done,
And I'll continue having fun.
For when you've lived as long as me,
Important things have changed you see.
They're not the things that you can buy,
But those you carry when you die.
Well as I said I did not think I would write a rant but this is a week, and a situation that I can laugh it, literally laugh so much it hurts!
The world is a funny place.... but we are the world! No wonder for many years now I have made my departing comment to staff, family, friends and just about everybody:
HAVE FUN!
I certainly do,
Ivor
Oh, Ivor!
My deepest sympathies for your toothache. I don't think anyone could ever imagine how such a localized pain can be so all-consuming 'till they've had one themselves.
Is there any Ambesol or nutritional supplements like Slim-fast where you live? Ambesol, in the US is a pain reliever intended for the specific relief of toothache. It comes in a gel form intended for use on the gums closest to the site of dental pain. Nutritional supplements like Slim-fast are made for dieters who want to shed a few pounds, but can be quite useful for someone in your situation who needs caloric intake and nutrition in a liquid form. Actually, a product made by Ross laboratories called Ensure might work best, as their supplements are intended as nutrition for people who don't need to lose weight. Poking around on the internet might lead to some beneficial answers to your momentary binds.
I hate it for you that you've had such a horrible week in combination with your aching head. I wish you all the best in looking for new work and finding peace from your eyes and teeth. Just remember the well worn phrase, "All things, and this, too, shall come to pass."
Ivor...
I am so sorry to hear about your week Ivor. It's amazing how life has a way of compounding the physical with the mental, good for you for standing strong against the chaos.
"Don't let the bastards grind you down" One of my all time favorite sentiments and it was refreshing to hear it.
Thoughts are with you Ivor, and while I'm sure the bastards won't grind you down...I figure it sure doesn't hurt to grind them back a bit;)
Best wishes,
Juniper
Life is just a bowl of Cherries Ivor
You just have to spit out the pits! It never rains but it pours. You know these things happen in threes...your eyes, your teeth, your job...so you can breathe easier now...there is nowhere for you to go but up! Stress is a killer and obviously your job was the culprit...so the Lord said ENOUGH!...we'll find him a different one without all the hassles!
Have Fun,,Jen and Jun!
Jennifer,Juniper,
Thank you both for your kind thoughts and wishes.
I think I have made this rant too serious and that was not my intention.
I certainly can see the funny side of it and hope others can too, life is too short to get unduly concerned about events of this nature!
Thanks again,
Have Fun,
Ivor
Worse things happen!
Bea,
Sorry my reply to Jennifer and Juniper must have been posted as you commented.
Possibly for the first time in 30 odd years the job I am doing is not stressful, I had even written a poem about it saying how much I enjoyed it after years in high stress jobs!
The situation our firm has put my colleagues into is stressful. Many of them had given up good long term positiond to join the market leader in our industry with one of the five leading brand ames i the UK, only to be put out of work 18 months later!
I am a survivor, but yet again I can see the distress that pure profit motivation has put my colleagues through. These are skilled people and mostly young enough to move on, but working for our company they thought they had a job that still holds a lot of respect in the UK.
I saw this change coming years ago and my poem called 'End of an Erra' that I wrote years ago shows my feelings about this.
Worse things happen at sea, and in the absense of a life-raft I have become an able swimmer!
Have Fun,
Ivor
Lucie.....Have Fun
Lucie,
On a daily basis you look after peole in a far worse situation than any of us. I can only imagine the stories of courage, determination and acceptance that you would be able to tell.
I have today posted a poem about the real hero in my situation simply titled 'Joan'.
Thank you for your support.
Ivor
