A child's life challenged by an affliction at birth, handicapped severely, a lifelong struggle ahead. A keen intelligence and loving big heart, not much to look forward to yet coping, bless his heart.

Pain and frustration mark his every day
Every step a challenge, met with such strength
His courage inspiring, talents unique
Emotions on the edge, tears sometimes shed

Desire for independence fought to keep
But for reliance on daily care
Never to savour a place of his own
Prisoner to his body, yet carries on

Ignoring the stares of passers by
Life of normality his only wish
Affection blossums from this blessed child
Love and tenderness touches his heart

A youthful mind in an adult's frame
A boy so special, many lessons learned
Unsure his future, taken day by day
So much he gives us, little does he take

Live long and happy, our little friend Geoff. Love you always.

Why Do They Stare
This poem really hits to the heart. Why do people stare, then when it's done to them, they almost cuss you out. They way I look at it, it should be, if you are going to look at them, in any way, then it should be with a smile, but it's hard to do in most cases.
We have several handicapped children on my hubby's side, but once you get to know these boys,,you wouldn't believe just how smart they are, and even they forget they have a problem, that only slows them down just alittle,,these guys are going to go a long way...thanks for sharing, many people right here in Mi should read this,,,antiquey

Human nature
Sadly despite how evolved we think we are, we fallow our basic animal insticts. Observing anything which is not the norm. If something looks differnt poeple stare. Whether it is a handicap person, an overweight person, a goth, a supermodel like goddess....
