The soldier lays motionless, caught up in a dream, visions of home by the fire they dream. To share in the joy of the Christmas tree, tinsel and twinkling lights, candy cane.

Moments of silence, the fighting subsides
Drift into slumber, dreams grace the night
Hands held warmly while papa says grace
Then silent thanks for all that He brings

Christmas lights flicker in Yuletide delight
Our sons and daughters home for awhile
Warm embraces and bursting with pride
The soldier in combat, hungry and tired

Hanging ornaments, gifts wrapped 'til dawn
A family sharing this blessed time
Their loved one's safety all that they ask
A guardian angel close by their side

Lay down your arms, come back to us soon
May the silence of peace be all you hear
Stirring, these visions fading away
Awakened, smiling, her gift this dream

Don MacIver
Come on a journey with me...where eagles soar.
