If I had a wish to make
Upon a falling star
I'd be hard pressed to pick just one
For I have many more by far.

I might select a selfish one
For which I take no blame
Or I might go seek a cure for man
Without a drop of shame.

It doesn't matter what it is
It is your wish to make
Just write it as a poet
Without concern for what you take.

And please, if you have more than one
Be bold and post them here,
We are writers, visionaries all
So you need have not undue fear.

(Post away my friends, and let's see those wishes upon a star)

My wish
I wish for flightless waterfowl
To take to wing and fly
So they could bring my special girl
My love and heartfelt sighs

I wish to speed the turtle slow
To transport on his shell
A rose, a blush, a gentle touch
To make my girl's heart swell

I wish to raise my gentle voice
To epic pitch and tone
So cries of love would distance span
And my girl wouldn't feel alone

One Wish
It is almost like she didn't exist
this babe who is missed
but never was kissed.

No breath passed her lips
yet into fragmented clips
my imagination slips.

Who could sweetly surmise
life's light in her eyes
as a tangible prize?

If wishes were horses
there'd be beggars on coursers
but I'd have better resources.

Wish I may. Wish with might.
Wish forsaking mortality's plight.
Wish for my girl's ungranted right
to experience life's undeniable delight.

My wishes
One, running into you unexpectedly,
somewhere outdoors, finding a warm
place to go, where we can skip
the building of these tiresome
figurative bridges.
Two, not bothering about the absence
of mistletoe or any other good luck
charm. Getting rid of cellphones,
timepieces and other limits.
Three, breaking out of these flat
billboard faces we always wear.
Touching.
Four, trusting that stars line up
differently while we're together.
Loving.
Five, crossing out any memories
should they creep up too close
to logic. Taking our hearts out
of safekeeping.

my wish
I'd wish to meet the tenants

'round a nearby rising star

and question them at length

of their avoidance (well, so far)

of self-annihilation (Darwinian disgrace)

and hope our good traits human

Shall preserve us in God's Grace

One Wish....
I would like to whisper over your neck
slight on that tender part
hot breath in the crease
as I move in time to the beat
our hips making Jamaica blush
cotton stretching over our thighs
as I make this wish in sweat
never leave this natural high

Our Wish
If we could wish upon a star,
And see our wish come true.
The only thing we could wish for,
Is what we cannot do.

To bring our daughter back to us,
Without her earthly pain.
For memories now, are all we have,
Since parting was such pain.

I know there's other parents,
Who have shared our darkest night.
But children shouldn't go first,
We should be their leading light.

Although I speak the mysteries,
Of the mind within the soul.
Within our hearts we suffer,
From a huge big gaping hole.

We strive for reassurance,
That at last we'll meet again.
But until then like others,
We just learn to live with pain.

Wishes
If I could have my heart's desire,
anything I might wish for,
I'd box up beauty and hand it out
to heathen, king, and whore.

I wouldn't leave out anyone.
All should have a part.
For perhaps if all had just a piece
it would linger intheir heart.

I'd package up the sunset
and tie it with great care.
I'd capture the scent of rain
and the smell of a baby's hair.

I'd find a way to hold a part
of fire-flies that glow.
I'd wrap it all with friendship,
for beauty there does grow.

There'd be an endless resource.
Beauty lies everywhere-
a loyal dog, a running horse,
a lover's gentle stare-

So think of this tonight my friends.
Perhaps I'll get my wish.
When you notice something beautiful,
think of it with my kiss-

A Minimal Ode to Mies
I wish to not

My Wish
I wish for love, happiness, kindness and understanding, Thoughtful consideration, empathy, and caring,
Wisdom, companionship, talent and a Mars landing,
Long life, love, mutual respect and sharing,
I wish these things not for me,
But for my future; my progeny.

my wish
Back in the days of middle school,
A chubby girl sent me a note.
I snubbed her because she wasn't cool,
but she still persisted to dote.

She told me I was wonderfully mysterious,
and praised me to the sky.
My friends and I thought she was hilarious,
and she waited in vain for reply.

I wish I'd made the right choice then,
and made her my special friend.
But I'll never get a chance again,
a sweet reply to send.

A Moment's Wish
Suspended here I wish for time to stand still,
Will your eyes to steady their gaze on both mine,
Shine their blue-green fading to grey of the sky.

Why, it rained all day, I wish for clouds to stay,
Pray for the wind not to blow my luck away;
Fun-days and You pass only once in a while.

Wishing Didn't Make It (Wishing thread)
Be careful what you wish for
as you look up at the stars.
If you wish for feathers
they may be mixed with tar.

Don't wish for someone else's husband.
You might find that's not so wise.
He could be a big ole stinker.
And you're stuck with the booby prize.

Do not wish for physical beauty.
Too soon the looks will pass.
As gravity pulls at your body.
That ,too, will fall...alas.

Do not wish for untold wealth.
You cannot buy real friends.
After they're done using you ,
that's where the friendship ends.

I'll tell you about wishing.
On that I can make a sure bet.
If you wish in one hand and poo in the other.
I know which one you'll get.

My wish
a wish for total peace
but as this may never come than
a little joy each day

A Wish (on Monday)
If Monday could be dropped
From every week of every year
I would be a happy girl
And would not shed one tear.

After lolling on a Sunday
With the New York Times and such
The alarm clock on a Monday
Is almost...well, too much.

By Tuesday morn, the shock is gone
And the day proceeds along
Usually, Tuesday isn't onerous
Although I could be wrong!

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
are pretty much the same,
Not particularly noteworthy
But the calendar's not to blame.

Ah! then the weekend rolls around
And Sunday comes anew,
Where I can joyously close my mind
To all but a book review.

My Wishes, three…

© cjherlihy 11/7/04

I could wish for dollars and materialism.
But money can’t buy love or happiness.
Love is learned from birth with life’s lessons.
Brought on with gentle care and tenderness.
And then with love one finds happiness.

What I really wish for is love, acceptance,
understanding, fruitless anger’s dissipation.
I wish for enlightenment to all three who have
lost sight of who I really and truly am.
Yet my attempts are rebuffed again and again.

This wishing makes me tired and I ache.
Maybe someday, somehow and someway
my kids will at last hear what I’m sayin’.
I’m not the bitch, the lunatic, gone astray.
Until I’m let in again I will wait and wait.

To wish for this fills me with painful sorrows deep.
The way I’m being treated fills me with disbelief.
They’ve shut me out in their own ways all three.
It is them over there and then here there is me.
Yet I’ll never give up - I’ll always hope and reach.

wishing on a star (thread)...
I wish that wishes weren’t needed,
And all hopes were instantly met,
That dreams were the stuff of reality,
And there was no one we didn’t like yet.

I wish that wishes weren’t frowned upon,
When they involve world peace,
That love, hope and happiness,
Where the only emotions released.

My Wish
I wish that I could never see,
The place where no one's soul is free.
Where minds are lost to endless pain,
From earthly lives that had no gain.

I've touched this place, and feel I know,
The depths that lurk for us below.
Where all is lost in darkest night,
With spirits drowned in mindless plight.

My wish though, it can never be,
For this is not my destiny.
With others, I descend to hell,
To help lost souls to break their spell.

So I will wish for better times,
For those poor souls who've lost their minds.
And wish that thoughts from you and me,
Again will help the blind to see.

For thought is soul, and soul is mind,
So spare a thought for all you find.
The power of good is in your hand,
Your prayers are 'wishes' in this land.

A Wish
A Spring afternoon
in a French café
so I could wear
a bright-colored scarf:
orange maybe?
Though I shouldn’t really care
how I look for as long as she’d gladly read
to me her poetry.
I must not forget
the Sweetheart Roses though,
something to make her blush
when I hand to her a dozen as I say
“My Lily, I’ve long wished for this day.”

Wishes
When I was a child, I wished for toys
As a teenager...I coveted boys
Especially the high school football star
That I secretly worshipped from afar
But I discovered to my dismay
When he finally deigned to look my way
He wasn't my Knight In Shining Armor
But a callow youth...a cad...a charmer
Who used his talent and his fame
To lure the girls like a moth to flame

As years flew by I wished for love
Praying every day to the Lord above
Then I finally found the love of my life
And one day I proudly became his wife
Most of my wishes have all come true
So here is my wish for all of you

I wish for mankind to mend its ways
Before war destroys us and the earth decays
Or the world we know and all we cherish
Will soon explode...and all will perish!
We all are different...yet just the same
Yet we spend our lives in placing blame
Respecting our differences is how we start
I wish you peace with all my heart

My Wish
I wish upon a star so bright
The others bow in shame.
I wish for joy upon this night,
In Jesus’ holy name,
To visit each and every one-
To comfort hearts that mourn-
To bring a smile to every face
And heart that feels forlorn.
I wish for you this day to feel
Delight within your soul,
To find the strength to grasp the hope
‘Twill truly make you whole.
And so I wish upon this star,
This star that shines so bright.
That you, my friend, put fear aside,
Find comfort on this night.

one more wish
To hear the stories you never told,
Daddy, before you died:
if only you knew how your little girl
longs for them now:
New York City in the thirties,
four boys in a Ford from the twenties,
I can only imagine...
Fedoras tossed aside,
hair smoothed,
American girls,
long before my foreign mother.
The others died too and
I can only invent the anecdotes now,
dream them up.
I wish for the stories, Dad,
when I see you again.

Wishing Well, Oh Wishing Well...
I wished that I could show you, the places I have been
I wished that you had been there, through all my thick and thin

But since you were not with me, to share the things I've done
My plan is not to make a wish, or change what has been run

I will now train all my thoughts, to make YOUR wishes true
So if you count this as a wish, as I'm sure you'll do

Remember that a wish that's made, for someone else's sake
Will surely have a better chance, of getting a fair shake

Fishes
If wishes were fishes
I’d live by the sea
Catch lots for others
Not only for me
Share them out equal
Have lots of fun
Lying out on the beach
In the glorious sun
