They lurk under eaves sitting and
feeding-laying eggs and weaving
all day long;
Some search for laughter and some
hunt with spears-how many spiders
are in here?
On floors where we walk-in rooms
where we talk-sometimes they
will land on your lunch!
Do they mingle and play-why am
I so afraid-how many spiders
have you seen today?

It lacks drama. An allusion to a negative experience. An unpleasant surprise. Horror-bound tension.

"Some search for laughter and some
hunt with spears-how many spiders
are in here?" -- this is a nice and imaginative, but defintely NOT scary.

Maybe you have to draw on the most shocking memories to give it the vreepiness. Listen to Who's "Boris The Spider"--this is creepy and scary.
