Come place your pain upon my shoulders
And I will gladly share with you
The heartache and the fears
That life has put you through
When you need a steady arm
To guide you through the maze
I'll lead you through the nightmare
That constitutes your days

When you feel all hope is gone
And your heart aches in despair
When you cry out in frustration
And you think no one is there
When your world is closing in
And you're left too weak to fight
And your dreams become a nightmare
That keeps you captive in the night

I'll be at your side
I'm with you all the way
Praying for a miracle
That will enable you to stay
That's what friends are for
To hold your hand and hug you tight
To love you unconditionally
As they try to make things right

True friends will ALWAYS be there
You only have to call
I will gladly share your burden
For I love you after all

Madam Beatrice Boyle
This is very important, Bea. Very beautiful heartfelt poem. To whomever this poem was written for, I am sure he is crying right now because of the personal messages to him you inserted within the paragraphs and lines.

In the Jewel Box of Life,
Good friends are the most precious of gems. It is wonderful to have one, but it is more important to BE one!

Thanks Claire, Ranier and Char
Claire, you are one of those Pearls in the Jewelbox without a doubt, as we all can attest.

Ranier, thank you...you are correct...this was very personal indeed.

Char, as usual, you are much too kind in your critiques...thank you!

Gram, your friends are blessed
to have you in their embraces. This is so well written, flowing with truth. I admire the writer more so when I can "Feel" the poem. Wonderfully done, as always.

Hug a friend today!
Hi Darlene, I really appriciate that...Thanks!

Our families have to love us (altho some don't unfortunatly) but a friend is special...they have CHOSEN to love us, and be there for us, and go through life's "stuff" with us, just BECAUSE they love us! Hug a friend today!

Friends are gifts from God.
Thanks Kacee, I'm sure you have many yourself.

I have friends I'm still in touch with from my salad days, you know...way before the flood! lol
Some from childhood, some from school, and until last year, kept in touch with my English teacher from high school ...we wrote back and forth for almost 6o years! (She has altsheimers now, and can't read the poetry I write about her anymore.) And even after all these years, we still value (and even argue) with each other as tho it were yesterday!)

Don't dismiss the value of friendship...it's priceless...hang on to it for dear life.

Unconditional Love
whether it be from a parent or a friend, can take many forms. For instance...I love Claire dearly...IN SPITE of the fact that she loves G.W. Bush...I love my dear friend from childhood IN SPITE of the fact she stole my receipe...entered it in a contest...AND WON! (under her name!)lol

We love our children IN SPITE OF etc. etc. etc.

Unconditional love means loving without any expectation of receiving anything in return...but guess what...it's usually returned ten fold.

Thank you Lucie, for appreciating my poem!

My Friends at Lit...Thank you
Thanks Ivor and RJ...and the rest of my buddies here for appreciating my poem. It was written for a very dear friend of mine who is going through a difficult period and didn't want to burden anyone with their problems. God sent us here to love one another as brothers and sisters and help each other over the trials of life. Being a friend is more than sharing good times...a real friend does what God intended him to do...BE THERE for each other, to give advice where needed, understanding, compassion, LISTEN and in most instances...just give a hug or hold a hand when there is nothing left to do. But above all, just BEING THERE, so they don't have to make the journey alone. Think carefully when you say you are a friend...it is a true responsibility!

Ma Dear
Oh you, my Ma and my friend too, am very glad to finally be able to comment on this wonderful heartfelt poem. You know what to write and when to write it. That's what I love most about you my Ma. To whomever this poem is written for, we all your friends will consider this as given to each one of us. Thank you very much for this.

Loves always,
Peter
