ALARM BELLS

Yellow neon digits
Change shapes
Delighting in time
My company for insomnia
Glaring at the night with me

The numbers take form
In a musical note
When dawn breaks
And the kookaburra’s laugh
As tears well in my eyes

The monotony of week days
Like a margin on a page
The start of a blankness
Awaiting to be filled
With the existence I supply

Water awakes me with sprinkles
On skin still soft with sleep
And drowns the dreams
Down the plug hole of a Monday
Drenched in spite of a good weekend.
