Oh Mexico where people go
when they want to get away.
Well I dont know what they
find there but one thing I can
say,

The most sentimental things,
are from memories of
yester- years,
right here in my
little city.

Dad riding home on
a cloud of dust,
while mom called
for us to come
to supper.

Every spring the crackle
of tires on our dirt road,
meant grandmaw and grandpaw
made it right on time,
bringing gifts if we missed
Christmas from to much snow.

Now standing on the square of Lincoln county
I watch a school pal make his mark again.
Rememebering the under pass where
he wrote ,I was here and you were
gone,left my name to turn
you on.

I wonder as he climbs the tower,
if he realizes he's righting
wrongs we did as kids,
with his graffiti,
taking down a wall
like in Berlin.

Sliding into the
shoes of our parents
generations,
something we couldn't
see, we said
if we got the chance
to out live them.

It seems such a wonderous thing
when so many think that change
is the only way to be,
To know that my kids
when I'm gone,
can here the same music
I heard from these hills
in Kentucky.

Each time the old clock on the court
house hours, they can feel the chimes
of memories gathering by the minute,
and why this is the only place to be.

I don't know about Mexico
When I need to get away,
I just let my heart,
escape to Lincoln County,
reading sentimental
graffiti.
